Even funnier thing to imagine: resurrecting Diogenes too and telling him that “Platonic” relationships means not fucking, he’d probably laugh himself back to death.

So I actually know the origin of this term because it came up when I studied Plato in my classes.  Basically, in ancient Greece it was a super common practice for teachers to fuck their students.  Like all the time.  It was considered a way for the student to “pay” the teacher.  Plato thought this was bullshit.  He felt that a student could not properly learn from someone who was truly only interested in having sex with them.  He didn’t fuck his students and derided those who did.  Other teachers who refused to fuck their students were said to have “platonic” teaching relationships with them – so named because they were following Plato’s example.  So the reason it’s called a Platonic relationship is because Plato was heavily anti-teachers-fucking-their-students and it’s one of the few things he was ever even remotely correct about.

Moral arguments suck on the left and right because generally the person you’re arguing with is going to have a different perception of what is and isn’t moral, one that can’t be changed.

For example someone could say it’s morally wrong to price gouge, and someone else could say it’s morally wrong to restrict what businesses do because that’s infringing on freedom or whatever. Therefore, both these arguments won’t get anywhere.

So argue based on fact.

“Price gouging during hurricanes for one example is done specifically to exploit dangerous conditions where people have access to an increasingly limited area. Price gouging makes necessities like food and water unaffordable, which is inconvenient to the consumer.”

1. Give examples,

2. Back up examples with facts,

3. Avoid moral arguments.

I didn’t include sources here just because this is an example and also well known

There’s nothing wrong with swearing at any job. That’s not “profanity.” people can speak however the fuck they want and swearing shouldn’t be censored in the first place, it’s not “offensive,” no words are (aside from slurs and whatnot). “Swear” words shouldn’t be treated any differently than any other words.

There’s also nothing wrong with displaying your body however you want at any job or anywhere in general, as the body is also never offensive.

one day we will live in a society where my barista is completely nude and he calls me a bitch for ordering a pumpkin spice latte

it’s so weird to see people online say that they think all gay people are prone to “morally judgmental black and white thinking” when that’s just… not the lived experience of any gay people I know. most of us if not all of us are constantly interacting with people who hold a low level hatred for us and we don’t have any kind of choice in that. most of the time it’s “my coworker told me she thinks all lesbians are ugly and gross but most of the time she’s really funny so I forgot about it” or “my relative told me he thinks all gay people should be sterilized and put through conversion therapy, but he’s usually pretty nice to talk to at family functions”. like as gay people we’re constantly compromising on our safety/comfort/mental health for the sake of convenience and familiarity so maybe if you think we all judge celebrities or tumblr users too harshly based on a few microaggressions maybe consider the fact that in real life we hardly ever get to control the kind of environment we live in

If “Hozier” and “Florence + the machine” ever did a collab, it would be so dangerous to listen to anywhere apart from the middle of a forest, as moss would just start appearing around you, and branches would just grow from any surface you looked at

my favorite thing about this post is the quotations because they imply that these two are something other than what they tell us and that’s exactly what ageless dieties of the forests would do
