my post last night is also making me think like, yes Jim’s story follows most teen coming of age stories, but unlike those stereotypical protagonists Jim could not give less of a fuck about being popular. Yeah he’s crushing on the pretty “popular” girl, but it’s not because of her status. She could be a nobody and he’d still be crushing on her. He tries out for a play just to get to know her. He puts on the grit-shaka just to feel less nervous around her. It’s never with the extra incentive to climb the social ladder or make more friends. And when he’s nominated for spring fling king, Jim just. could not want it any less. He’s antisocial, but it’s not treated as something he’s dissatisfied with; it’s Toby who’s dissatisfied with not being popular or cool or having a lot of friends. Jim doesn’t care. He’s not sociable, and the narrative, blessedly, doesn’t treat that as a flaw or something he has to overcome. It’s even presented positively when he chooses to ditch the school dance in favor of some more intimate quiet one-on-one time with Claire that he’s clearly more comfortable with. and thats so important
Anon you are fun. You are a fun anon. I couldn’t answer this question without some drawings to go with it.
He would have more hair and a lot more Dwarkstones to play with. Dictatious is prolly praised a lot for all his research and books, and Blinky’s a lil bitter about it. He’s also a tad more crazy. But I bet if Arrrgh was brought up he’d still feel a glimmer of regret.
