hi welcome to our weekly LGBT Queermmunity meeting. today we’re going to re-hash the difference between gray asexual and demisexual again! and then we’re going to let Aiden yell at you until you concede to renaming the group QPADTAH (Queers, Pansexuals, Asexuals, Demisexuals, Transsexual folx :), and H*mosexuals and bisexuals who are too stuck up to identify as pansexual)

next week’s meeting is “straight people in open relationships: are they oppressed and how much more oppressed are they compared to you” and if you disagree Aiden will vague tweet “yikes… i guess queer unity doesn’t matter to some of you” on his main and tweet “[your name] is low key queerphobic honestly all [your sexuality] people are like that so…” on his private

If you insist on telling bisexual people that “bi means two”, then don’t ever use the word “myriad” to refer to any amount other than 10,000.

Also, don’t ever use the word “quarantine” to refer to any period of time other than 40 days.

dont use the word decimated unless youre talking about something SPECIFICALLY reduced to 9/10th it’s previous size

Your indignation is valid but your facts are not.

We got a bright one here folks. A real genius.

I’m sorry, I have trouble detecting sarcasm, are you being sarcastic?

Correct. You hard missed the point of the post which is that a word’s definition can evolve beyond its etymological root.

I thought the point of the post was that people who denounce “bisexual” as meaning only two are hypocrites for using words like myriad because the definition of myriad could only refer to exactly 10,000 and they’re only being accurate when they feel like it, rather than the reason being that the definition of something can be something other than its etymological origins.

There was more than one implication to your reasoning. You can’t call other people stupid as you leave a clear possibility of misunderstanding out in the open.

It’s because bisexual in LGBT circles has pretty much always meant “can be attracted to anyone” and should continue to mean that but people try to redefine it and create unnecessary sexualities with the weak and stupid justification “bi means two” even tho bisexual doesn’t have to refer to only two genders regardless of its Latin prefix; we’ve redefined words many times that originally had a specific etymological meaning

it’s so weird to see people online say that they think all gay people are prone to “morally judgmental black and white thinking” when that’s just… not the lived experience of any gay people I know. most of us if not all of us are constantly interacting with people who hold a low level hatred for us and we don’t have any kind of choice in that. most of the time it’s “my coworker told me she thinks all lesbians are ugly and gross but most of the time she’s really funny so I forgot about it” or “my relative told me he thinks all gay people should be sterilized and put through conversion therapy, but he’s usually pretty nice to talk to at family functions”. like as gay people we’re constantly compromising on our safety/comfort/mental health for the sake of convenience and familiarity so maybe if you think we all judge celebrities or tumblr users too harshly based on a few microaggressions maybe consider the fact that in real life we hardly ever get to control the kind of environment we live in

the way gay men talk about lesbian fetishization and how its “the same thing as yaoi fangirls” really shows how men truly dont believe the level of sexual violence used against gay women.

Gay men are literally sexually harassed constantly by “fujoshis” both online and in real life like so I don’t understand why this post is acting like comparing that to sexual violence against women is so far off?

Like yes obviously women are less likely to physically assault men but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened in some form or another????

i cant overstate how fucking pleased i am to announce that

gsa club member: what’s your opinion on adding sapiosexuality to our list of recognized aspec identities? also, what did you think of our presentation panel on the struggle of maintaining femininity in demigirl-hood and other feminine-aligned genders in a butch/masc dominated world?

“bisexual can mean youre into the opposite gender and nonbinary people bc that’s two gender and bi means two”!!! is the same shit as “bisexual is transphobic because it excludes nonbinary people bc bi means two!!!”

you people are so fucking hyperfocused on the latin meaning of bi instead of just the historical context and actual common meaning of bisexual in LGBT circles basically meaning that you’re attracted to any gender lmao.

cool lets get a better word for it then because we dont live in the past anymore lmao

“Fuck this term that ppl have fought so hard for the ability to call themselves and has so much history and culture and activism packed behind it all bc it has a Prefix that can be vaguely interpreted in a way I don’t like”

oh my god this person deleted i got my first kill

1. i was talking about general society, bisexuals have long been accepted within the community and its only recent mogai bullshit thats started to treat bi as being regressive or something

2. yeah aces sure have a long history of less than two decades with a culture based around tumblr posts and threatening LGBT orgs that dont kowtow to the demands of cishets

When did asexuals start being associated with the LGBT community? Like when did that connection appear in some people’s minds?

jennyslateswife:

Well, aces didn’t begin to form their own communities until 1997 and I think minor conversations around it started from there but didn’t really gain traction until around 2003 when David Jay got Wesleyan to change their LGBT acronym to
LGBTTQQPF*GIBDSM
(I censored this, so, you can guess where the A is). Around then, it was still understand by p much EVERYONE To mean “ally” but that’s when it started changing.

It was only in 2015 when more mainstream organizations and not just school campuses started to consider the A to be for Ace and that as ONLY after aces started throwing PR tantrums that threatened their funding and images.

Most groups do not have ace-specific resources. Most groups still don’t use the A at all. Most groups that still use the A use it to mean ally or alliance.

But, basically, asexuality only started being associated with the LGBT community when we started gaining rights and positive feedback. When it became cool and trendy. Post-Glee and everyone being like “Well, I think Istill hate the gays but Kurt Hummel wasn’t so bad and taught me basic human empathy because I’ve never seen a gay before teehee.”

They’re glomming onto us because they think it’s safe to be us.

Which is going to backfire.

me: I like to think of this male character as ace

0.3 seconds later, literally every oily, bitter gremlin and fujoshi on this shitsite: uhM ACTAULLLY, iN sCeNE 32 iN EpiSODE 294, yOU cAn CLAERLY tELL tAHt hE liEKS tO taKE uP DIcKS, OKAY???? So STOP bIENG A hOMOPOHBE, oMG

Anyone else remember the time the gay couple from WTNV joked about their sex life during a live show and all the people who’d been headcanoning them as ace had a giant collective meltdown and tried to smear the irl gay actors (one of whom is HIV+) as problematic for “alienating” them?

thats literally where the term allogay comes from btw. it was literally coined in derogatory reference to cecil baldwin, the openly hiv+ gay man who voices the lead character.

Lol also op is in the tags saying they never ever mentioned gay men whatsoever when they clearly are referring to people head canoning/ picking up on the gay coding of male characters lmfaooooooo like just accept the loss bro you made a bad post
