Pride month is hard for me. You see posts about Marsha P Johnson and stuff but there isn’t stuff like that for me. I know that there were aces and demisexuals and aromantics fighting just as hard at Stonewall and afterwords but why are there names nowhere. Why don’t I have anyone.

i am so fucking exhausted i don’t even know where to start with this

for marsha p johnson and sylvia rivera and other lgbt people being out in public was literally illegal. cops would check your genetalia and if your clothing didnt match what was deemed “right” you got arrested, you got your picture in the paper. youd lose your job, often your family, youd be harassed on the street. being gay was illegal. being trans was illegal. stonewall was a riot against police brutality on the basis that self expression for lgbt people was entirely illegal and there were few fucking places people felt even moderately comfortable enough to go and be openly themselves.

no cishet aro or cishet ace was rolling up to stonewall to dance. no cishet aro or ace was ever stripped of their dignity in front of their entire world and incarcerated for being aro or ace. you dont have stonewall “heros” because it doesn’t apply to you. the biggest “asexual activist” is a cishet white man named david jay who is openly homophobic and firmly believes in the inclusion of kink as a subsection of the lgbt community lmao

im not saying there were no cishet asexual people fighting for gay rights and all that shit but asking for an ace “”stonewall hero”” is completely ignoring the fact that stonewall wasnt for cishet aces!!! it had nothing to do w cishets and claiming it did, claiming that any sort of cishet involvement is as or more important than trans women of color or any lgbt people is offensive and ridiculous

also marsha p johnson was murdered. happy fuckin pride month

Maybe the fact that ace people don’t have anyone dating back to stone wall isn’t because we weren’t persecuted… Maybe it’s because no one ever accepts that asexuality is real. At that time anyway. Ace people have been told over and over that their sexuality isn’t real. That’s being persecuted. Torn apart. Invalidated. For that, we deserve to show our pride and our belonging to the queer community. Even if an ace person has one type of attraction to same gender, doesn’t mean they aren’t oppressed for another type of attraction they have…

this is such an incredibly ignorant and self involved response i’m not even going to engage. cis hetero aros and cis hetero aces do not and never will belong in the lgbt community.

anyway donate to miss major’s retirement fund or the sylvia rivera law project

hey btw the reason lgbt bars in particular are the most common lgbt venues and a staple of lgbt culture is because a huge chunk were owned by the fucking mob

the mafia in new york in particular (yknow where the stonewall inn is) founded and owned lgbt venues because new york state liquor laws were against “disorderly premises” and “homosexuals soliciting partners” counted as disorderly and the mafia saw a profitable market in lgbt people who had no place to go. they gave them a place to go. the liquor served at stonewall was traded underground or stolen, because they couldnt operate with a liquor license. the mob payed off the police monthly, but there were still deputies who refused this money and raided anyway.

there were no fucking cishet aces or aros at stonewall because it wasnt just a “fun venue where ur free to be urself :)” it was a fucking illegal operation with shitty bootlegged alcohol and no running water for dishes. the only people there were gay people, trans people, and the mafia.

im sure there were ace and aro people at the time who were activists but i would bet my entire fucking right arm that NONE OF THEM were at the stonewall inn the night the riots started, because not only were the patrons already breaking the law and under threat of assault by being openly gay and trans and being at an lgbt venue, but they were also literally in the middle of the fucking crossfire between the mafia and police.

you lot only fucking joined it when it got safer and profitable. THATS WHY you dont have any fucking ace or aro or demisexual stonewall heroes.

tbh ace discourse is so distressing to me bc like. i highly doubt inclusionists even understand what the lgbt community is all about?

like ive seen inclusionists legit ask what resources cishet aro/ace people and cis aroace people could ~~supposedly~~ steal and like. do you know why there are lgbt homeless shelters? like has it even crossed your mind why lgbt people cant go to standard shelters? its bc wed get kicked out in the best case scenario and get assaulted or murdered in the worst case. who is gonna kick someone out of an homeless shelter bc they dont feel sexual attraction?

the same goes for lgbt scholarships, hotlines and so on. we need these resources bc cishets either dont give a shit about us or they want us dead.

and the lgbt community and the ace community also have extremely different goals. i support the ace community. i think we should make people aware of informed consent, we should talk about the sexualization found in our society, about how sex and romance arent the only things that make us human and people can live a happy life without them. but the lgbt community isnt the place where to do it.

listen. for lgbt people sex is often a demonized aspect of their lifes. homophobic sexual jokes; ‘predatory gay man/lesbian/trans person’ stereotypes;  equating gay relationships with sexual intercourse;  sexual harassment suffered especially by wlw’ the slut shaming suffered by bi, pan and poly people; corrective rape; ‘love the sinner hate the sin’ mentality, are all things the lgbt community is supposed to be free of. now i hope you understand why, for someone struggling to see their sexual attraction as something good and normal, in the only safe haven they have, having somebody preach that ‘not feeling sexual attraction is ok!’, is downright disrespectful and hurtful, even tho its a valid statement.

the lgbt community and the ace community can be allied, but we cannot be united, and thats not hate speech, thats just me caring for my own.

OP: Makes this beautiful post about how the ace and LGBT community can work together, but not be joined in a well thought out and understanding manner.

Hellsite Ace Cryptids crawling out from a sewer gutter and into the notes of this post: “Bad post OP!! Cishet aces are LGBT!!!!!”

no shade but it’s interesting how there’s so much “ace is lgbt” activism in countries where pride parades and lgbt spaces are popular but absolutely none in countries where it’s illegal to be lgbt. cishet aces want to get drunk at pride in the usa but would vehemently deny any lgbt involvement or help lgbt at all in saudi arabia. it’s real convenient when you can pick and choose when you want to be included đŸ¤”

some of you have no idea how to recognise homophobia and by extension no clue when to prioritise addressing it. which is how we end up faced with bigots shouting “gays should die” and our supposed community hitting back with “does that mean asexuals are immortal”

i imagine this is because many teenagers inhabit online communities near exclusively and that means.. tumblr or adjacent spaces. there is a divorce from the lived and material homophobia that comes from living openly in, like, nowhere texas for example. there is a divorce mentally from this meaning anything or truly being a threat

humour is great as a coping mechanism, yes. but what are you coping with when the violence isn’t against you? what do you get from, when witnessing someone speak homophobic rhetoric, mentioning they didn’t include [x] group? is that the ideal moment? why would you rather be namedropped than defend a lesbian?

witnessing another group of people experience violence shouldn’t make you feel left out.

I think the most fucked up thing about the ace discourse is that cishet aces want into our community despite knowing nothing about LGBT culture, twisting our history to suit their agenda, and being disgustingly homophobic/transphobic when met with resistance from LGBT people. It’s like…why do you want to be part of our community if you hate everything we stand for? I d o n ’ t g e t i t.

People don’t hate gays. They hate how you act.

So they hate how we react when people try to wrongfully co-opt our struggles? Sounds pretty homophobic to me

No they hate how sometimes you like assholes?

Reblog if you’re gay and you like assholes

I was once in a debate with somebody over “Hey, maybe don’t try to make every disabled character ace, and don’t get excited over my disabled characters as ‘oh are they ace representation?’ because as a disabled person, we’re so often dehumanized and our sexualities are erased, as people ‘just can’t think of us that way’.” and the response I got was “oh so u hate aces :(?” like. Hon. Did you not just hear me.

here’s ur new alignment chart gays, go fetch

Damn, there are so many problems with this. I wasn’t going to reblog because of that, but apparently I can’t help but do it, just to point them out.

Okay, so here are the major things, which don’t cover nearly everything, but are a start.

1) I’m an ace so I apparently don’t qualify here. Same goes for pan and what else have you.

2) Gay and lesbian could be covered under one label of “homosexual”, so it’s unfair that they get two spots. Especially considering point 1.

3) Why is there no hot chocolate on the list? Tea and coffee are hot beverages so energy drink as the third option makes no sense, while hot chocolate would fit perfectly.

(I’m a Tea Ace and you can’t stop me)
